Photographed over the course of a decade in the American West’s arid and sweeping terrain, this work depicts a human capacity for endurance. Schutmaat offers an updated view of the “open road” that addresses a new era of uncertainty and anxiety. Amidst a backdrop of environmental decline, economic dispossession, and societal neglect, Sons of the Living draws attention to trouble on the road ahead and searches for our hope to withstand it.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0742/9878/5849/files/2026_03_20_RealmBooks_07A4477_SonsoftheLiving_small_c5f441b6-ef61-47d6-a290-28ba95e36191.jpg?v=1774127144
rough-cut
Rough & Cut

Rough & Cut
Abigail Varney
Trespasser

10x12.5 inches
68 pages
32 color and 14 b&w plates printed on uncoated paper
Open spine binding with iridescent foil stamped hard cover
Designed by Brian Kanagaki

From Trespasser: Rough & Cut documents Abigail Varney’s journeys to a place in central Australia called Coober Pedy. The town owes its existence to the discovery of opal seams in 1915, an iridescent gemstone that formed from water that once covered the desert landscape. This precious opal has been mined through a series of booms and busts, almost into oblivion. Beyond the mullock heaps and away from the sun's searing heat lies underground dugouts inhabited by Coober Pedy’s remaining miners, still dreaming of one last opal-rich strike. Keeping the idiosyncrasies of the town's personality alive and well, Varney’s encounters are an insight into the characters that call this place a forever home. Captured are the remnants of this magnetic, surreal landscape shaped by its extremities.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0742/9878/5849/files/2026_03_20_RealmBooks_07A4383_Rough_Cut_small_ba06ce35-dd63-40de-a94a-53f963679bbb.jpg?v=1774119951
languor
Languor

Languor
Donavon Smallwood
Trespasser

11.5x14 inches
56 pages
35 tritone plates on uncoated paper
Open spine binding with silkscreen printed cover
Designed by Cody Haltom

From Trespasser: Languor is an ode to NYC’s Central Park.
